Plots(1)

In 1989, emergency responders received a 9-1-1 call from Maria Rossi (Suzan Crowley) confessing that she had brutally killed three people. 20 years later, her daughter Isabella (Fernanda Andrade) seeks to understand the truth about what happened that night. She travels to the Centrino Hospital for the Criminally Insane in Italy where her mother has been locked away to determine if her mother is mentally ill or demonically possessed. When she recruits two young exorcists (Simon Quarterman and Evan Helmuth) to cure her mom using unconventional methods combining both science and religion, they come face-to-face with pure evil in the form of four powerful demons possessing Maria. English The objective quality is clearly worth 2*, but I’m going to be good again and turn a blind eye, if only for Fernanda Andrade, who was very nice to watch except for the last few minutes. The script for The Devil Inside combines all the clichés of exorcism movies (which would be fine), but it does so clumsily, mechanically and, above all, boringly that it undermines itself and makes the story a patchwork of scenes with no greater build-up and no twist. Fortunately, the documentary style was a hit; the amateurish camera and the dark, disgustingly faded sets manage to create the kind of atmosphere everyone imagines in connection with the devil during the horror scenes, and the image is not unnecessarily shaky, so you are able to orient yourself quite well. Unfortunately, the theme of exorcism has been almost exhausted since The Exorcist and it would be nice if someone came up with something truly extraordinary, so that quality could overshadow quantity, which is not the case here. 55% ()

English The problem with all similar films, such as "Paranormal Activity," is that the viewer already knows what to expect and they are not surprised when it happens. The creators are incredibly uninnovative and simply rely on the pseudo-documentary style of the film to give it weight and satisfy the audience. Unfortunately, I am not satisfied, on the contrary, I think this is a way in which a few films could have been well made, but currently, without any ingenuity, it is no longer possible to impress. English A great example of a film where you can not spoil the ending because there isn’t one. The Devil Inside is very poorly written, the characters behave in unlikely ways and the plot, rather than a complex story leading somewhere, is a sequence of unrelated scenes. Despite all these problems, which are a lot, in the second and third act, the film manages to hold some semblance of atmosphere. The horror scenes, which aren’t intended to move the plot forward, are well executed and feel unpleasant; they are effective. That’s mainly because, with the documentary style it uses, which looks almost abnormally ugly with its washed out colours, it’s pretty easy to conjure an unpleasant atmosphere. When they are performing the exorcisms or the possessed start jumping, it’s quite good... Unfortunately though, it’s mostly boring blabbing about nothing, it’s not worth recommending. ()

English I’m not a huge fan of films about the exorcism of various kinds of demons from the infernal hierarchy, so my excuse is that I got to see this film by a mere coincidence. Plus, when I found out it was filmed in the same way as The Blair Witch Project, I was sure I would give it a low rating, but eventually it turned out that the film had a pretty decent unsettling atmosphere, the priest mortality rate was satisfactory, and it wasn’t boring. English I strongly suspect that the Vatican had this movie custom made to make us all believe in exorcism. By the way, could somebody explain to me why in most cases exorcism is performed on women? ()
