If you want to see how the Japanese imagine a proper young lady, you don't have to go far, just watch this series. Just an average series where everything kind of flows, the story is nothing special, but you don't have to worry about any factual situations or liters of tears. It did seem to lose steam in the middle (I don't know exactly how, I just know I suddenly didn't like it as much as the first half), but it still retained a nice mediocrity. ;-) However, even though the story and characters were mediocre, this series brings something extra – tradition. You can see something here that you don’t see as much in contemporary Japan (at least not in Tokyo, where the story takes place, although we are in Asakusa after all...). The series is, if you're interested in Japanese traditions, festivals, and the creation of Japanese wagashi confections, the kind of thing where if you pay attention, you'll learn a lot. From an educational perspective, this is a series full of information; from the other perspectives don't expect too much from it, just watch it and relax; after all, it's nothing too demanding. – I'd just mention about the subtitles that the translator probably didn't know that Kannon is a goddess in Japan, so she gave her the masculine form.
