Mother of George

After getting married, Avodele and Adenike are trying for a baby. Yet the Nigerian couple from Brooklyn is unable to conceive. Furthermore, Avodele refuses a medical examination that might help in such a situation. Dejected Adenike eventually succumbs to her mother-in-law's pressure and decides that a desperate situation calls for desperate measures. The film of Nigerian director, Andrew Dosumnu, offers an insight into the different culture and traditions of the African community in the USA while addressing the topic of femininity and motherhood. The audio-visually captivating drama is also one of the two films that earned a Cinematography Award to Bradford Young at IFF Sundance 2013. (Febiofest)
