Facing financial ruin, divorced 44-year-old gambling addict Gerry (Ben Mendelsohn) bonds with younger risk-taker Curtis (Ryan Reynolds) over their shared love of cards, racetracks and casino tables during a game of poker. After swapping stories of their past, the pair set off on a road trip around the South, gambling their way along the Mississippi River to try and win back enough money to pay off hefty debts before entering a high-stakes poker game in New Orleans where they hope their luck will finally change.
