Josh lives the fast life. He is the most popular DJ in New York, and spends his nights performing - and partying hard - at the hottest club in the city. He is days away from being signed by a major label and is on his way to a life of fame and fortune, all at only 17 years old. But after an accidental drug overdose, with his mother's blessing he is sentenced by the court to live out the rest of his underage year in the custody of his estranged father in the small army town of Paragon, North Dakota. He is quickly enrolled in the local high school, where he plans to keep a low profile until he can ride out the end of his sentence and get back to New York. His plan is crushed when he is recruited by Mary, the captain of the school's struggling dance team, to mix the music for their routines. When the team wins their first competition in seven years on the strength of their new DJ, Josh softens and starts to consider that the small town may be less of a "sentence" than he feared. English I came across this movie by chance and its beginning caught my attention; there was a wannabe DJ Harvest (that’s like somebody calling themselves DJ Zetor in the Czech Republic) showing off at some party, devouring one molly right after another. The viewer then cannot be surprised that he ends up in a withdrawal therapy for kids where he meets other kids and their different problems. Over time, I realized that the movie is also about music, but the musical numbers didn’t bother me at all. I was just astonished by how the boy usurped all the music for himself. But in fact, he was only mixing music somebody else composed. He also annoyed me a lot with this attitude of his, just like when he thought he can find out everything about other people without telling anything about himself. Everything was compensated by Josh Duhamel, whom I personally like, and whose excitement about European soccer made me really happy. The best thing is when he personally explains to an American brat and DJ that soccer is pretty popular in Europe and the little brat can’t sleep for a few days thanks to the shock. The Americans didn’t waste time and so that they wouldn’t be too pro-Europe, they included the main storyline of the movie, which is about the stigmas of families of American soldiers. As I said, I expected worse but the movie was not so bad after all. ()
