Desperate for a child, Steven (Ryan Phillippe) and Shannon (Rachelle Lefevre) travel to Puerto Rico to adopt Haitian orphan Nina (Briana Roy), who they met through the organisation International Rescue Adoption run by Reigert (Jacki Weaver). But before the adoption can be finalised Nina mysteriously vanishes and the couple realise they have been the victims of an elaborate con. The case gets even more complex when dangerous criminals become aware of the secret dealings and they move in to capture a slice of proceedings, threatening the couple's lives in the process. I can't help it, but even though this is sometimes truly a dialogue horror, John Cusack has been quite fitting in similar roles lately. Partly because of his face, but also because of his acting. A terribly straightforward film, but at least it draws attention to something that is really happening. I'm not saying it's worth it, but surely someone will also be interested.
