Plots(1)

The Grinch tells the story of a cynical grump who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl’s generous holiday spirit. Funny, heartwarming and visually stunning, it’s a universal story about the spirit of Christmas and the indomitable power of optimism. (Universal Pictures UK)

English An enjoyable modern animated version of the Grinch that leaves the live-action version with Jim Carrey far behind. At Illumination, they are used to giving space to Dr. Seuss, so it's difficult for an adult to be entertained. The only negative is the modern song soundtrack by Pharrell Williams, which does not fit the concept of a family film. ()

English The latest adaptation of the story about the green, hairy grump who didn't really like Christmas differs in many ways from the 2000 feature version starring Jim Carrey as the Grinch (I haven't seen the first 1966 film yet). It's definitely more for children and tries perhaps a little too blatantly to moralise the younger audience, which was also the case in the feature film, but the latter was darker. What I missed a bit was the illumination of the Grinch's origins, which were handled quite nicely in the 2000 film. I could go on comparing like this, but I don't really want to do. The new Grinch is certainly not lacking in pretty and colorful visuals. The funniest characters were definitely the animals – Max and Fred really rocked – if it weren't for them, you wouldn't even laugh much. While the film is primarily aimed at children, the message that Christmas is not about presents and money, but about values beyond the material world, is appropriate for all. ()
