Plots(1)

In 2012 the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna began the major task of renovating, reinvigorating and reopening its revered Kunstkammer galleries and its one-of-a-kind collection of Renaissance and Baroque artwork, amassed by a long line of Hapsburg emperors and archdukes. With unprecedented access, this brilliantly immersive, behind the scenes documentary focuses on the people and processes behind the renovation. From the managing director to the cleaning services team, from the carriers to the art historians, the staff members at the museum all share the same goal: presenting this world-class collection of art by the Old Masters in a way that remains accessible and relevant in these modern times. English In recent years, it has become a trend that you can also visit a museum in a cinema to see its collections, but the movie "Great Museum" is not about the Museum of Art History in Vienna presenting its collections to you, but mainly about the people who work there. And as a behind-the-scenes look, it is quite an interesting experience. ()

English A very interesting ticket to a museum and its nooks and crannies you normally wouldn’t get to visit. The documentary offers some interesting shots, moments and situation that would otherwise be lost on you, which is its biggest upside and technically, most likely the reason why it was made at all. It’s interesting, of course, but I’m not exactly sure if I’m the kind of person jumping in joy over something like that. Though I usually love museums. The user ABLABLABLA’s wonderful review reminded of me of the best moments which I’d already forgotten. Except for one – the discussion about the ticket font. The absurdity of that situation was limitless. But it assured me that idiocracy can be found everywhere… even in art. ()
