Bhutan in the 1970s was probably closer to medieval traditions than to modern times. The story of siblings from a far-away village unfolds in a simple way. Kuenphen and Jamyang learn the traditional art of archery from their grandfather, a famous warrior, but custom excludes girls from mastering this skill. While Kuenphen gets the chance to take a look beyond his home village and participate in archery competitions, his sister spends her time with typically female activities at home. The exotic film employs the picturesque scenery of the Himalayas together with the natural performance of non-actors, addressing the relation of traditions to modern times as well as the issue of emancipation.
