The Seven Years’ War (1756–1763) can be described as the first global conflict. One of the most important battles of the war occurred less than seven kilometres from Kolin, in the triangle formed by the villages of Planany, Svojsice and Krechor. On June 18, 1757 the army of Maria Theresa of Austria led by Field Marshal Leopold Daun clashed with the Prussian army led by King Frederick II. The battle is conveyed to the audience through re-enactments, further complemented by animated graphics that depict the military strategies of the contending armies. Jan Plachy, journalist, documentary filmmaker and military history enthusiast, guides the audience though the f lm. Historians also have their say on the unfolding events, and in the re-enactments the officers of both armies describe key aspects of the conflict. Plachy gets right to the heart of the action and provides a palpable view of the events that decided the outcome of this bloody battle, in favour of the Austrians in this case, even though the overall result of the war was quite the opposite. The victory of the Prussians and their allies saw the loss of Kłodzko and the greater part of Silesiaesia. (Academia Film Olomouc)
