Before the Last Curtain Falls

Ravel's Bolero resounds through the night on the streets of the Belgian city of Ghent, where the final presentation of "Gardenia" is taking place. The highly successful movement-theatre performance, which features an ensemble cast of elderly transgender actors and drag queens, has been performed in more than 20 countries. Now, two years later, the star performers whose stories inspired the show have returned home to their regular lives. This visually impressive film combines footage from the last show with vignettes from the colourful lives of several of the artists to create a multi-layered picture of modern queer history.
