When a prominent architect discovers a former cemetery in São Paulo, all his ideas about an ideal life in a thundering metropolis are slowly collapsing. The concrete monster that is São Paulo conceals much more mystery than what can be read from architectural textbooks. Family history and interpersonal injustices become significant burdens when urban planning for a twelve-million metropolis. For thirty-three-year-old director Gregory Graziosi and native Paulistano, who originally studied architecture at university, Obra is a feature-length and internationally successful debut. In his black and white drama, we are facing the architecture of the concrete city as a vibrating creature, which, thanks to the constant waves of asphalt roads and tower blocks, comes into its own life, and the very existence of it slowly but surely becomes a claustrophobic nightmare.
