After some time, The Gallows turns into a classic simple film about a group of people trying to escape from a building, but something stands in their way. The camera is shaky, people are out of breath, frightened, and some of the scares are genuinely awkward at times. I can't help but think that, aside from the opening theatrical idea, this is just another ordinary attempt to scare you with something that is ultimately not scary.
