Air Pressure is the dramatic and visually jaw-dropping new series that follows the intense highs and lows in the lives of the young British pilots who work for Indonesian airline Susi Air as they fly and land their planes in some of the most breath-taking, remote and dangerous locations on earth... and for most of them it's all in the hope of racking up enough flying hours to land them a job with a commercial airline back home.
Faced with few job opportunities, Susi Air offers a lifeline, often taking on pilots who have as little as 250 hours of flying time under their belts. But the break means the pilots have to fly in the enormously testing outer regions of Indonesia, where the weather is constantly unpredictable, the runways are cut into the side of mountains and the remote airstrips are separated by miles of dense jungle. These factors are known to cause deadly flying conditions; Susi Air has suffered three fatal crashes in the last three years and there have been 128 crashes in Indonesia in the last 20 years, making it one of the most dangerous places to fly in the world.
But the risks are worth it – they fly through some of the least explored and incredibly beautiful parts of the planet, from paradise islands to the wild mountain ranges of Papua. A major part of their work involves airlifting supplies to isolated communities and flying tribes people to far-off towns for emergency medical attention. This regular contact with indigenous peoples means their experiences couldn't be further away from those of a European budget airline pilot. (official distributor synopsis)
