Comedic mystery drama from film-maker Guy Maddin. A submarine crew of four have been trapped in the depths of the sea for months and will soon run out of air. When they discover a newcomer has come on board they become hopeful that they have found an escape route. The visitor's story is told through flashbacks and dreams in phantasmagoric layers. Among the cast are Charlotte Rampling, Geraldine Chaplin, Mathieu Amalric, Ariane Labed and Udo Kier. (Soda Pictures)

When the ranger got into the submarine deep underwater, I thought I might start to love it. Unfortunately, it has about ten times more continuous story planes than Inception, and I had to give up somewhere past the halfway point. 2 and ½ (for its courage).
