The spirit of our nation was forged on the shores of Gallipoli... and in the centenary year of the battle that shaped the ANZAC legend, comes a landmark drama event for every Australian. As dawn breaks on April 25, 1915, ANZAC troops launch into battle on the beaches of the Gallipoli peninsula. Landing in the dark chaos is 17-year-old Thomas 'Tolly' Johnson, who has lied about his age to enlist, his older brother Bevan and their loyal mates. Thrown into the heart of a war they know little about, in a land utterly foreign to them, these brave yet frightened boys endure the next eight months simply trying to stay alive. By the time of the final evacuation, each will have learnt about courage, sacrifice and the importance of mateship. They not only fight for their country, but for each other. Their legacy lives on today, stronger than ever. In Gallipoli, we remember and commemorate them. (Roadshow Entertainment)

Gallipoli (2015)

English I enjoyed Gallipoli so much that I don't feel like criticizing anything about it. The Australian creators deserve credit for the way they approached an important part of their history. It could have ended up being a grandiose celebration of national heroes, but instead it was a sober, realistic and raw series, which was a great tribute to the boys in the trenches. At least that's the way I see it. ()

The First Day (2015) (E01)

English After some time, Australian filmmakers returned to their famous army corps, ANZAC, in which Australians and New Zealanders fought together in both world wars, and it was a successful comeback. From the beginning, I had the impression that it was not just a celebration of heroism, but I also found an anti-war subtext in the episode. ()

My Friend, the Enemy (2015) (E02)

English Strong Episode. Unlike the famous Christmas Truce on the Western Front, I knew absolutely nothing about this nine-hour ceasefire at Gallipoli, so once again I had to search literature, and now I can rightfully praise the creators of the series, they really succeeded with this. ()

A Man Alone (2015) (E03)

English After the third episode, it's becoming clear to me that I'm watching an Australian variation of The Expendables. True, the war is different, but that's the only major difference. The soldiers' fates are essentially the same, only the killing was on a lower technical level, so one had to wait for death a little longer. But who waits... ()

The Deeper Scar (2015) (E04)

English After the fourth episode, I have to admit that the series makes a very strong impression on me. It is true that the entire international fleet seems to be resting, but I understand that naval operations against Turkish fortresses in the Dardanelles are not part of the plot. I was pleased that the creators did not forget about one of the pioneers of modern sniping, William Edward Sing. ()

The Breakout (2015) (E05)

English How could I not give five stars to an episode that brought the famous attack of the 3rd Light Horse Brigade? Fortunately, the creators disregarded the pathetic glorification and presented the event in its disgustingly realistic form, which did not diminish anything from the unfortunate Australian boys' forced self-sacrifice. Rather the opposite. A well-directed, powerful episode, in which the haka had a much more chilling atmosphere than in All Blacks matches. ()

If Only... (2015) (E06)

English The story this time has moved back in time, and I had to let the fifth star wait in the trenches. The episode was again of very high quality, mainly informed about the backstage events, political maneuvers, and strategic impotence of the British command. However, it lacked that strong atmosphere of futility without the frontline scenes. ()

The Earth Abides (2015) (E07)

English So there was nothing to talk about here, five pieces were clear, the atmosphere, which I complained about in the previous comment, returned in full swing, and Australian filmmakers once again proved to me that unlike others, they take their history very seriously and prepared a truly dignified ending for their series.
