Set during the turmoil and despair of World War II, A Bag of Marbles (also known as Un Sac De Billes) tells the remarkable true tale of two young French Jewish boys, aged 10 and 13, as they attempt the perilous journey to the southern Free Zone, to find relief and freedom from the impending Nazi occupation. With the aid of a helpful priest the boys are driven to step out of the shadow of evil and use their wits and charm to remain one step ahead of their persecutors, in order to survive. English How is it that the French, being an unbearable nation in real life, can create so many emotional pieces that are just worth watching and make you want to relive the story along with the actors. A Bay of Marbles is another of these exemplary World War II dramas written by the war itself. With the story so powerful it is hard to believe it actually happened. But it did, and I unsuccessfully tried to manage to hold my emotions together for the whole 110 minutes. A powerful story, beautiful French small-town scenery, interesting and exciting plot. If it had me engaged through the whole movie, I’d give it the 5th star. Nonetheless it is a movie you do not want to miss. ()
