Svatební cesta do Jiljí

A nice partner test with the adorable and unrestrained Libuška Šafránková and the disgustingly hairy and systematic Josef Abrhám. In principle, it’s sort of a copy of Ball Lightning (Abrhám as a starchy intellectual with silent inner monologues), but despite the presence of the duo Svěrák-Smoljak and a few typical gags (the one with losing and finding is particularly great) it is not anywhere near the level of the top creations of the Smoljak-Podskalský duo. But it's still a quality comedy in every way, about how, just before their wedding, whilst travelling, two people try find out whether they're going to be able to stand each other. They are also accompanied by pleasant music, which is probably the work of someone from the Mišík-Hrubý duo (if I'm not mistaken, hehe). (06/07/2004)

Once upon a time in the ancient era of the 80s, I quite liked the cycle of bachelor stories, which, in the then-poor offerings, were among the better things that appeared on television screens. The television returns of bachelor stories today indicate that only a few materials have stood the test of time with honor. This particular film is a delightful bachelor story and is no more inventive than that. Sadly, but this time, I saw a different film than others; it happens sometimes. From my perspective, it's a mediocre and unfunny TV movie, where perhaps nostalgia or the presence of the proven married couple Josef Abrhám and Libuše Šafránková play a role in the assessment for many. This casting used to be a safe bet, partly due to Šafránková's subtle charm and the working chemistry between the two members of the married couple. This is probably the first case where it didn't do anything for me at all. Overall impression: 25%. Maybe I'd lean towards a more merciful two stars, but in recent days, I've seen several extraordinary films that set the bar too high. (08/02/2014)

One of the films that I rank among the absolute top of Czech comedy (or comedy period). The clash of Krchňák's fantasy with the stark reality is brutal and he has to use all his skills, starting with blunt force and ending with brilliant map reading. I loved the film when I was a child and I still do. (21/08/2016)
