She was an unconventional woman in conventional times: Singer-actress Dalida, née Iolanda Cristina Gigliotti, was born 1933 in Cairo, debuting as a singer at the Olympia in Paris in 1956. Her career covered three decades until her early death 1987. Everything about her life was glamourous: Her songs, her affairs, her tragic setbacks. She lost people she loved. She went to India in search of enlightenment and later surfed the Disco wave in the '70s. There's been a Dalida Place in the 18th Arrondissement since 1997 – now Liza Azuelos has devoted a filmic monument to her, too. (Filmfest München)

English Dalida was able to enjoy life to the fullest, yet she was never completely happy. She longed for great love, but it was denied her. It's no wonder she became successful and famous when she had such a sophisticated delivery, captivating vocal tone, and moreover, her entire eventful life was reflected in the lyrics of her songs. This successful film portrays everything I mentioned in a very captivating way and is filled to the brim with beautiful music, which in itself is moving, let alone the tragic fate of the singer. The Italian actress Sveva Alviti, who plays the lead role, is also worth mentioning, as she was the best choice to portray Dalida. (85%) ()
