The three Kelecsényi girls have to raise fifteen thousand pengoes to avoid putting their little house in Buda to auction. Necessity forces them to cheat and they write letters to their American uncle, who promised each a dowry of a thousand dollars, announcing first Erzsike's, then Zsuzsi's and finally Lenke's wedding. The generous old gentleman sends the money with his son, Johnny. The girls quickly borrow phoney-husbands and they even find a substitute for the absent Lenke. Johnny falls in love with Erzsike, but not wanting to destroy "the young wife's" happiness, he leaves. On his journey he meets the real Lenke, who blurts out how they fooled the American uncle. Johnny reveals the phoney husbands and confesses his love to Erzsike happily. (official distributor synopsis)
