The Legend of Timm Thaler or The Boy Who Sold His Laughter

No one can resist Timm Thaler's laugh. It's so natural, so contagious, that everyone who hears it has to join in and laugh too. His father warns him to be careful with his tremendous gift – people don't like it if they think you're laughing at them. But soon his father dies and left to his horrible stepmother, Timm has nothing left to laugh about. Why shouldn't he sell his laugh to the strange rich Baron Lefuet? He doesn't need it anyway, and in return he will win every bet he makes. While the mysterious Baron is using Timm's laughter to forward his own evil plans, Timm learns that being a winner is not all it's cracked up to be, and a life without laughter is no life at all. And the more bets he wins, the more he loses touch with the people around him, his friends Kreschimir and Ida.
