Hercules (Reg Park) must battle a monster made of stone, retrieve a golden apple from the tree of Hesperides, and brave the horrors of Hades to rescue his beloved from the clutches of the evil Lyco (Christopher Lee). Oracles, witches, and vampires abound in this delirious blend of sword and sandal adventure, horror, and psychedelia. (official distributor synopsis)

The great thing about Hercules in the Haunted World is that there are some nice special effects scenes or simply moments where you think that it's a good thing that Mario Bava has made his own take on the underworld - darkly, but he had a great imagination whilst doing it. For example, the chopping of the roots is visually interesting. The production design of the film is very good, it trumps the story, which isn't great, as well as the humor, which unnecessarily gets in the way of the plot. ()
