Immortalized in Luc Besson’s classic The Big Blue, Jacques Mayol was the world’s greatest free-diver, a restless lifelong sea-adventurer whose destiny was forever altered by his friendship with Clown, the dolphin, while working at Miami Seaquarium in the 1950s. Blending spectacular archival materials with recollections from family members, contemporaries and actor Jean-Marc Barr - who portrayed Mayol in The Big Blue - Greek documentarian Lefteris Charitos’ inspiring feature directorial debut, narrated by Barr, allows us to share in that dreamy wonder Mayol found below the ocean’s surface, where he went as far as any human can go to fulfilling that deep inner urge to experience the freedom of dolphins.
