Lansing, Michigan. We open on Debbie Tisdales 30th birthday. Her gift is a small inheritance of $50,000 from her estranged father Boyd (80s). Debbie plans to use the money to quit her dead end jobs, clean up a minor prescription drug habit and finally complete her nursing degree, but the odds are against her. She soon learns that Boyd, under the influence of his much-younger wife Rose (50s), has cut Debbie out of his will. Debbie suspects foul play; Boyd suffers from dementia and could have easily been manipulated. After a failed negotiation, Debbie and her boyfriend Steve (30s) kidnap Boyd and head north, where they break into an elegant lake house, empty for the season. Shunned by an indifferent police force, Rose is forced to hire a low rent private investigator to track down her stepdaughter. Meanwhile, in order to navigate the bankers who control the access to her inheritance, Debbie masquerades as a member of the elite, a fantasy that soon comes crashing down. (Gravitas Ventures)
