Patrick Melrose was born into wealth and privilege, but his childhood was definitely not a happy one, and as an adult he became addicted to alcohol and drugs. However, now he wants to purify himself and start a new chapter of his life. As it happens, his proud and cruel father, who abused and manipulated young Patrick, died recently overseas. This is, of course, a good opportunity to get wasted and reminisce about the bad old days. But Patrick wants to stop drinking and taking drugs. He abandons his everyday Sisyphean struggle with booze, needles and mobile numbers of friendly dealers, and he flies to New York to recover his father’s ashes. Although the city that never sleeps tries to tempt him, Patrick really wants to change… something… somewhere. Even if only to stop thinking all the time that something needs to change. Will he succeed in turning his life around? (Camerimage)

Patrick Melrose (2018)

English I was pleasantly surprised by this series. I was baffled a little by the first episode because I laughed unexpectedly often, which I wouldn’t expect of a drama, but the following episodes did the genre justice. The show is an excellent drama with a suffocating atmosphere, snobbish manners and great acting performances (Benedict Cumberbatch, Hugo Weaving, J.J. Leigh, Holliday Grainger) that I really enjoyed. I wish there were more shows like this one. ()

Bad News (2018) (E01)

English So, I really enjoyed this One man show. Well, not that there weren't other actors in the episode, but Benedikt Cumberbatch completely stole the show. Considering it is a drama, I laughed unexpectedly often, Patrick really entertained me and his struggle with the urn was flawless. ()

Never Mind (2018) (E02)

English That is a surprise! The second episode did not bring any humor, unlike the previous part, but it intensified even more. The atmosphere was thick like fog around Rákosníček's pond, thanks to the time travel I could get to know the character of the kind-hearted David Melrose better and the amazing relationships in his family. Hugo Weaving brilliantly replaced the absent Benedict Cumberbatch and I had a great time again. ()

Some Hope (2018) (E03)

English The third episode, full of action again, but what I find most interesting is that each episode is completely different, and yet I have always had a great time so far. This time, almost everything took place at a high-class party and it was such a snobbish event that I was trembling with excitement. I am still very enthusiastic. ()

Mother's Milk (2018) (E04)

English I'm not sure if it was the atmosphere of summer in France, but this time the pace of the story seemed somewhat slower to me and the plot was not very rich in events. Nevertheless, I found many great moments here, so my satisfaction remains. I simply can't help but enjoy this series. ()

At Last (2018) (E05)

English Well, the creators concluded their work nicely. The funeral ceremony was of high quality, but the clear star of the final episode was the character Nicholas Pratt. He was such an amazing, snobbish jerk that I would really like to stick some pins into his figurine. As usual, I had a great time, but I must admit that I expected a more depressing ending. ()
