English I was pleasantly surprised by Pepa (unlike other users). Is this even a comedy? I'm sure it is, but it's completely different from the others – sad, quiet, bitter, tragic... Just a bit unnecessarily awkward at times, but most of the time 100% impressive. The protagonist, played by the perfect Michal Suchánek, doesn't have much of a life, but it's his own fault; he knows it, and doesn't know what to do about it, and the script that tells his story is not very complicated, but it says exactly what it wants to say. The direction by Ján Novák, who obviously cared about his own script, is definitely good. ()

English I wouldn’t completely condemn Pepa for living quite an unorthodox life. Well, some people are like that. And that it’s coincidentally Pepa and that the movie talks about him? The movie has to show some sort of extreme. If it showed what’s average, everybody would forget about it and they might even never think about it again. The first half of the movie was, after all, quite good. The period of communism reminded me of comedies from the turn of the millennium, which kept taunting the communists and taunt them until this day. As soon as the story swung into the present day, which shows where the melancholic Papa ended up, the story somehow stops working. Michal Suchánek is good, that’s all. The case is worse when it comes to some of Pepa’s opinions, which turned Pepa into his current self. Some people were, based on the reviews here, offended by this; I wasn’t. Unfortunately, even people like this live among us. ()

English A very weak film. The superfluous hero seems to have fallen out of the new waves, the hippie storyline makes no sense, the nostalgic normalization has a lot left to be desired, and some of the actors, like Suchánek, Blažek, and Špalková do what they can. Gross, making her film debut, is a complete mistake. Nothing would have happened if the subject had remained tucked away like a boring undergraduate short story. ()

English I was expecting it to be worse, if only because of the director's unflattering filmography. This bitter tragicomedy about a life loser actually has a pretty good premise and aptly captures the reality of everyday life along with the natures of the individual characters. In addition, the couple of Michal Suchánek and Petra Špalková is really good. ()
