For the audience, competitive rhythmic gymnastics is an art experience – like ballet. For the gymnast, it is an extremely demanding sport and brutal work – like ballet. Margarita Mamun is the sad-eyed girl in Russia’s rhythmic gymnastics team who won gold in the Rio Olympics rhythmic gymnastics all-around. During her performance, the viewers hold their breath, rooting for her to succeed. Polish director Marta Prus is a former rhythmic gymnast herself, and she knows who and what to film. Over the Limit is a film that everyone interested in competitive sports should see. Prus follows Mamun’s Olympic training from 2015. The coaches have equally important roles in the film as Mamun: Mamun’s personal coach Amina Zaripova and the autocrat of the Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation, Irina Viner.
