Set in the 1980s, the film follows 24-year-old film student Julie (Honor Swinton Byrne) as she falls in love with Anthony (Tom Burke), a worldly but troubled upper-class man who works at the Foreign Office. Despite the concerns of her friends and family, Julie allows Anthony to move in with her. She begins to notice warning signs of his destructive behaviour, with Anthony becoming increasingly dependent on her, but she fails to fully comprehend the extent of his addictions until they tear them apart.
