Erik, a slick attorney with an even slicker suite of offices in the capital and his brother Atli, freshly released from prison, share nothing but part of their DNA. Atli’s life permanently spirals downwards. His wife and child have deserted him and a new job is not on the horizon. Which is why he lets his seemingly successful brother hire him for a job, a sure thing. They want to smuggle cocaine into Iceland to get rid of their financial problems. Their drug-mule Sofia swallows cocaine wrapped in plastic, Atli travels on the same plane, controls the coupe, and Erik elegantly stays in the background. But things do not turn out the way they planned. The capsuled full of cocaine simply will not leave Sofia’ body, her health deteriorates and a tenacious policewoman starts to sniff around. Between fraternal loyalty and unconquerable differences, they now have to decide how far they want to go and how many lives they are willing to sacrifice. An enthralling cinematic thriller from Iceland that pulls the audience into a maelstrom of unexpected twists and nerve-wracking suspense. (Internationales Filmfest Oldenburg)

English A solid directorial debut from Iceland dealing with drug trafficking. The story revolves around two brothers who smuggle cocaine into their country in the belly of a young Polish woman, but everything goes wrong when the woman gets sick, she can’t vomit the drugs, the police are on their tail and someone would like to get their cut. As always, those used to Scandinavian cinema will get an authentic, uncomfortable and gritty piece with an escalating and suspenseful finale. Very good and chilling enough. 8/10 ()
