Chronicles of the Ghostly Tribe

I may be exaggerating a bit with the rating, but I simply had a good feeling about this Chinese film. The story sometimes pushes too hard and aims to squeeze tears out of you, but first and foremost it is an incredibly visually stunning spectacle, with elements of horror, fantasy, and science fiction. It is suspenseful and adventurous, and there are beautiful locations, whether real or digital. The CGI, by the way, is overall of very high quality. (20/10/2015)

This Chinese adventure fantasy film definitely had potential, but it remained largely untapped. At times I felt as if they didn't know what they wanted to serve the audience. The mythology surrounding the ghost tribe looked good at first glance, but cracks could be found throughout the plot, and by the end I was somewhat clueless as to where I stood and lost in the denouement. The visual effects were passable and the humans vs. monsters action sequences sort of worked. What undermined it all the most, however, was the script. (24/12/2018)
