The Man Who Bought the Moon

  • Italy L'uomo che comprò la Luna

Plots(1)

Undercover Italian operative Kevin Pirelli is sent to his ancestral island to track down a Sardinian fisherman who has laid claim to the moon. In spite of his extensive training, nothing can quite prepare Kevin for the real Sardinia... The Italian intelligence agency obtains intelligence too hard to believe: An unidentified man living in Sardinia is the real owner of the moon. The news is instantly relayed to all intelligence agencies in the world, and with each government claiming that they have the rights to the moon, they decide to dispatch a Sardinia-born secret agent into the island. Though the agent really was born in Sardinia, he has since lost all characteristics of a Sardinian, and must get private lessons to learn what it is to be a Sardinian. (Cinemax)

English A crazy theme filmed by the Italians in their own way with that kind of secretive humor which takes you a minute to get used to, accept it and start to laugh out loud. Moreover, situating the movie into Sardinia is brilliant. The Italians make fun of the Sardinians which was the intention, but they also have no problem to make fun of classical Italian stereotypes known all over the world. And I do like this kind of local jokes. The movie is politically incorrect, crazy, not for everyone, but enjoyable. And that is important. ()

English I haven't seen a bigger freak show in a long time, but I can't say I didn't have fun with it. There are some visual flaws, but who cares? I must have ancestors in Sardinia, Italy, because after some hesitation I liked the peculiar style of humor and ended up laughing like a madwoman. The anti-American message at the end of the film was quite bold and shot me somewhere other than straight to the moon. (75%) ()
