English This is much more than just a remake of the original 1977 movie, as the new version of Rabid is reminiscent of a collection of themes from all sorts of other David Cronenberg movies compiled into one movie by true aficionados, which are put into various scenes and are like a punch in the face. The Soska Sisters made no secret of the fact that it was practically one great homage to Cronenberg's work, and it did not seem to matter to them that they did not introduce any distinctively original creativity to the story. It would not matter if Rabid was like eighty minutes long, however, it overshot the mark with a running time of almost two hours, it is a pretty drawn-out non-agency bubble with surprisingly very few gore scenes, (all the horror scenes in the first two thirds of the movie end before they even begin), unsympathetically written characters, zero tension and insanely plodding pace, so I missed a lot of what the new Rabid was supposed to captivate and enrich us with. English Rabid is an American production that is a tribute to David Cronenberg, although, unfortunately, that is all there is to it. The Soska sisters have culled some interesting scenes from his movies and put the emphasis on them so that it seems like everyone gets it. They have created an incredibly long-winded narrative, and it would have been a much more interesting movie if it had a shorter running time and was a bit more original with more gore. ()
