Hankó Balázs is a small-time con-man who harmlessly profits from the post-WWII chaos in Budapest. When his escapades land him in trouble with the officials, he is forced to flee. While in the woods, he runs into a hunting mother-son duo, Judit and Virgil. Though grateful for the food and shelter, Hankó still can’t resist playing his old tricks. In the absence of Judit’s husband who is at the front, Hankó and Judit enter into a passionate affair. But Hankó is living on borrowed time, Judit’s husband is to return soon.
