From the Sideline

In the 1970s, Peter Brückner became an iconic figure of the German New Left and was the first university professor to lose tenure for political reasons. Thirty years after his death, his son begins a search for traces of the past. FROM THE SIDELINE tells the story of Peter's life, from the end of the Weimar Republic to the "German Autumn", the era of German leftist terrorism in the 70s. It is the story of a family caught up in political currents. A very personal, sometimes fragmentary portrait of Peter Brückner emerges from encounters with companions and family members, photos, letters and video footage. (Montreal World Film Festival)
