English I forgot to cancel my trial subscription to Apple TV, so more or less out of boredom I tried to click on For All Mankind and kill some time. Two days and 20 episodes later, I'm totally hooked. The simple idea of an alternate history, where the Soviets are the first to fly a flag on the moon and the space race is on, leads to an excellent blend of emancipatory drama and a kind of realistic Star Trek prequel. It's a nicely inclusive affair with lots of great strong female and ambivalent male characters that probably won't please those who like NASA as a bunch of space cowboys. However, if you're into Star Wars (the real ones), The Martian and First Man, this show is an absolute drug. ()

English An alternative history of astronautics, where it was the Soviets who first landed on the moon, offers a quality mix of drama and space action. First Man meets Mad Men. Nothing to fault in acting terms, Kinnaman dominates and the girls now getting more prominent roles on the wave of feminism are just fine. The final, post-credits scene inviting you to the upcoming season is great. First rate. ()

English A great alternate history idea with a plethora of possibilities to grasp the concept of space conquest, and it works very well on the whole. Joel Kinnaman is the driving force, but the other actors, admittedly lesser known, are not lost either. Unfortunately, as is sometimes the case, the first season is unsurpassed, it had the best mix of space action, great alternate events of the time, and just enough room for the characters to keep it from being too mawkish, talky, and overly emotional. The second and third seasons no longer have an optimal balance and they slip into space and earth soap-opera that doesn't really go anywhere and just fills in the blanks, and is so over-the-top that it would have even the Armageddon guys rolling their eyeballs. Still, there are many scenes that will take space fans by the heart, and none of the creators need be ashamed of the outcome of the project. ()
