A story losely based on disc jockey Alan Freed who introduced rock'n'roll to teenage American radio audiences in the 1950's. Freed was a source of great controversy: criticized by conservatives, hated by racists and persecuted by officials.

This lively musical comedy pays tribute to the birth of rock & roll in the late 1950s and the instrumental role played by disc jockey Alan Freed who helped bring the new sound into vogue. Much of the story centers on the daring deejay's attempts to put on the very first live rock & roll stage show at the Paramount Theatre in Brooklyn. To do this he must overcome the protests of concerned and angry parents, conservatives, and local police. Several performers of the era appear in the film including Chuck Berry, and Jerry Lee Lewis. English It almost doesn't matter what the movie is about because it's about rock and roll. That's almost enough in itself, because the songs here are absolutely great. But then there's the story of a man who got away with putting rock and roll before everything else. Oh, those were the days when rock and roll could really set mothers' cheeks on fire, in various ways. ()

English Alan Freed is certainly a major figure in the music world. It’s a pity, however, that the whole movie is mainly about the huge enthusiasm for music as such and so it thrives on individual brutally hyper-enthusiastic scenes, but in the end, there’s nothing much more about it. ()
