Samia, a young educational consultant, arrives from the south of France to join a difficult middle school in the suburbs of Paris. She sees recurring problems with discipline that are a part of the area’s social reality. On the other hand, she appreciates the incredible vitality and sense of humour of both students and teachers. With Moussa and Dylan, two hall monitors who also master punchlines, she runs the School Life team that supervises students throughout the school year. Samia is passionate about her job and, assisted by the school’s teachers and her colleagues, she will do everything she can to motivate discouraged kids and to show them that a brighter future is possible. A comedy drama about problems of education and social determinism on the example of school life in Saint-Denis. (Warsaw Film Festival)

English There have already been too many movies from the school setting about young and wild students and I have already heard Coolio’s “Gangster’s Paradise” as an ending song as well. But never mind that. I think that the French are professionals when it comes to this kind of movies so I can say that after watching this film I am really an expert in French youth and nothing can surprise me anymore. A multi-cultural France is the trend now, mainly in movies. ()

English A drama set in a school and multicultural France. I was expecting a crazy slapstick comedy and I got a drama about troubled kids. The film is quite good to watch, the guidance counsellor is a lovely woman, but the lack of humour was quite striking. I was definitely expecting more.
