Plots(1)
When Lama Norbu travels to Seattle to find the reincarnation of his dead teacher, Lama Dorje, his search leads him to young Jesse Conrad. Jesse's parents Lisa (Bridget Fonda) and Dean (Chris Isaak) are understandably taken aback but are gradually persuaded to take the Lama seriously. Together they journey to Bhutan where Jesse and two other children must undergo a test to prove who is the true reincarnation. Interwoven with this modern day tale is the ancient story of Siddhartha (Keanu Reeves), later known as Buddha, tracing his spiritual journey to true enlightenment. Little Buddha is a magical journey to a place where the past and present meet. (StudioCanal UK)

A grand film in which Bertolluci capitalised on his experience with big budget costume dramas of the previous years (e.g. The Last Emperor). A tedious but beautiful film. Keanu Reeves is convincing as the emaciated Siddhartha, thanks in part to his exotic appearance. This is a film for those who don't mind a more long-winded narrative, for people with an open mind. ()
