Arriving at a decrepit chateau for their honeymoon, young newlyweds undergo a series of surreal and sinister encounters, and come to realise that they are the prey of the resident vampires. Jean Rollin’s third feature film, The Shiver of the Vampires, established themes and visual motifs to which he would return throughout his career, blending horror, eroticism, fairy tale, and surrealism to create his unique cinema of the fantastique. The French film The Shiver of the Vampires enchants audiences with its concept of eroticism and its artistic approach, which is traditional for Jean Rollin. If this isn’t the first film you've seen from him, then it gets a little repetitive, but from my perspective, his films simply don't get old. I've enjoyed watching his other films, and I was charmed by The Shiver of the Vampires, which also has a connection to rock music and some hippie elements.
