Behind the peaceful pace of this observational documentary lurks constant drama. Every action in the film is motivated by the expectance of a worst-case scenario. As the risk of avalanches and floods is only increasing with the impact of climate change, the poetic landscape of the Swiss Alps is becoming more and more tainted by massive protective construction. The filmmakers refrain from any verbal commentary, but observe the engineers and volunteers with a critical detachment. Far from an instructive documentary on the hazards of occupying inhospitable environments, this film rather focuses on the enigma of the human drive for risk reduction. In order to enjoy this beautiful landscape, they have to alter it. To shield tourists from falling rocks, whole regions are covered by a nearly invisible safety system. While huge concrete fortifications and sculptural curved walls close to villages add a disorienting, surrealist touch to the picturesque sights. (International Film Festival Rotterdam)
