Falling in love was never on the cards. Nora, a shy Berlin girl, was always hanging around in the shadow of her older sister, with no experiences to call her own. Reluctantly she tried to fit in with her sister’s friends, image obsessed girls who only care about looks and immature guys who think insults are the best way to a girl’s heart. Different from the others, Nora has her own way of looking at the world, and when she meets Romy, she realises why. Confident and unapologetic, Romy walks to the beat of her own drum and Nora instantly falls for her and discovers a whole new world. Forging her own identity, for the first time in her life Nora is no longer invisible.  A true depiction of the trials and triumphs of female adolescence, Cocoon is a raw and honest coming-of-age tale. English I have to admit that the story and screenplay are too easily readable for this day and age and do not bring anything new. But what won me over was the cinematography and the music. The format of visuals and 80s style music mix chosen that is rather unusual these days has great charm and the acting performances are also a big plus. As a result, you get sometimes funny and sometimes dramatic high quality viewing. ()

English Although it may seem so, the film is not about Nora's discovery of her sexual orientation and her sexual experiences, but about discovering herself and, above all, about growing up. Unfortunately, it carries a considerable amount of clichés and this detracts from the originality of the plot in a big way. Occasional scenes are so absurd that the viewer has no chance to believe them. The film feels to be too long and it wouldn't hurt to remove some of the scenes and thus shorten the running time. Still, the characters, especially Nora, are well written and that is what won my favour. Fresh, authentic, but also gritty, the film gives another insight into the lives of today's teenagers and will appeal especially to teenagers, but will not appeal to discerning viewers. ()
