Jacques Tourneur definitely has better films than this adventure movie, which seems to want to imitate "Casablanca", but simply cannot. There is a romantic dimension here, there is a villain, there is an adventure dimension, but overall it does not have nearly the same power as the older, legendary film. However, Jacques Tourneur's outstanding atmosphere shines through thanks to the black-and-white camera. ()
