The ‘book of life’ is a familiar metaphor: the typical progression of birth, family, career, death… But have we entered the era of the punched tape of life? In this prophetic montage, set to electronic music, Kurenniemi intercuts early computerised work systems with glimpses of people frolicking in nature. Is everything recorded on film destined to become mere digital data, fitting a stereotype of existence? Or does real life continue to resist its encoding? (International Film Festival Rotterdam)
