English 1st season – 70% – Vikings: Valhalla secured its first victory with me right off the bat in the first episode. It's completely different, both in terms of character composition and, above all, in approach. There's not a lot of waiting around, small skirmishes and big battles happen surprisingly soon, and most importantly, there's someone to cheer for. In the original series there was no one to root for in the end, but here I really enjoy the entire main trio, not to mention historically important supporting players like King Canute. In the end, what comes out of the first season of this new chapter is clearly the best to emerge from the historic universe of Kattegat since approximately the third season of the original Vikings. With a bit better connection between the "domestic" and English storylines, it easily keeps pace with the most legendary raids of Ragnar, Rollo, and friends. ()
