When the wealthy Ella Venable (Catherine Lacey) is murdered at the behest of her husband, Walter (André Morell), the only witness is her beloved cat, Tabitha. As Ella's niece Beth (Barbara Shelley) attempts to uncover the truth, Walter and his accomplices fall foul of a series of cat-related 'accidents'. "The Shadow of the Cat" is another film from the Hammer studio that certainly doesn't disappoint and has something interesting and original about it. It's a pity that it is quite evident in the film that it is very old and that the ravages of time have taken their toll on it, as well as the unavailability of better technology during the filming period. However, as a gothic horror, the film still deserves attention and should not just be forgotten.
