Burnt Toast (2005) (TV movie)

English Although I can't consider myself a music expert in the slightest, this piece, which I watched by chance, caught my interest. It has a sense of humor, an interesting and original format, and meticulous execution. Serious music presented in a lighthearted, modern, and unconventional way. The weakest element is the connection between the individual episodes, but that's only a minor flaw. Overall impression: 80%.

The Office (2001) (series)

English This has been the most successful British television export since Red Dwarf. It is a departure from classic sitcom productions, in a way an experiment that contradicts the classic exaggerated situational comedy in favor of realistic acting and has humor that relies more on the absurdity of minor everyday work conflicts and character nuances of employees at a small company. Each of us has probably encountered similar types of people to the characters in the series to some extent in life, and we can insert our own specific names and faces as the characters of the show. It is difficult to describe what exactly the tremendous success and response is based on, but thanks to its originality, the series has excelled practically on all continents and in various cultures. A self-centered arrogant boss, an ambitious career climber, a dim-witted office girl, a timid underdog, and several other types of characters can entertain the viewer with a series of seemingly trivial incidents if they embrace the rules set by the creators of the series. Overall impression: 90%.

Love Actually (2003)

English In every genre category, I have a film that comes close to or equals the ideal - simply a perfect movie. Among romantic comedies, this spot is taken by Love Actually, and it's worth noting that it won with ease. Sure, a nitpicker could argue that the screenwriter didn't concern themselves too much with logic - but since when is love logical? Top-notch casting, plenty of funny moments, and an amazingly positive atmosphere. The perfect film for a romantic evening for two. Overall impression: 100%.

Čtverec mizení (1982) (TV movie)

English A TV production from its time, typical of Czechoslovak television, though it doesn't compare to international genre peaks. Its strength lies mainly in the cast. Overall impression: 50%.

Sideways (2004)

English Sideways certainly doesn't belong to the kind of films that immediately captivate every viewer and appeal to all movie fans indiscriminately. It's a subtle yet charming conversational piece, an ordinary film about average people experiencing a midlife crisis. No one should expect a barrage of iconic lines or a flood of zany gags. It's a film about searching for love and friendship, built on an intelligent script and strong performances by quality actors. Virginia Madsen, in particular, stands out in the role of the waitress Maya. Overall impression: 75%.

The Directors (1997) (series)

English A quality documentary series about the most interesting North American directors, providing insight into their "production kitchens" and ways of thinking. The directors themselves, as well as actors involved in their works, comment on the creation of their most important films and the challenges surrounding their production. The drawback is that it often lacks perspectives from the other side - expert critics and opponents among journalists or representatives of film studios. Overall impression: 80%.

Big (1988)

English Tom Hanks' first significant success, showcasing his comedic talent. Big is a pleasant, feel-good film that plays on children's desire for the "unlimited" possibilities of the world of adults. It stands on a well-constructed script and quality performances. Overall impression: 75%.

The Rebels (2001)

English Filip Renč capitalized on his extensive experience in shooting commercials and especially music videos. Technically, it is a well-executed film where the musical aspect, based on proven melodies and lyrics, truly works and clearly overshadows the flat and unconvincing story. As a depiction of a certain era (the August occupation), The Rebels does not hold up, but as a purely light-hearted affair, it is acceptable, thanks in part to the attractive Zuzana Norisová. Overall impression: 45%.

Team America: World Police (2004)

English Searching for a deeper meaning and message does not make any sense in this unrestrained farce. Those who want to can talk about traces of Dadaism, nihilism, and decadence. It is not a satire on American politics or a specific ideology. The creators take shots at terrorists and statesmen, leftists and rightists. And they use expressive means and situational comedy on the edge of good taste and often beyond it. Surprisingly, vulgarities abound in the film more than among elementary school students... I don't like gratuitous obscenities, and I'm not a fan of South Park either, but (maybe precisely because of that) I liked Team America, though rather as a kind of escapade and oddity. Just like when a very reasonable person occasionally does something unreasonable and releases pressure, it is wise to occasionally watch this type of oddity and humbly return to peaceful waters. Although the film suffers from unevenness, many of the jokes are really good, and the visual concept and puppetry are worth it. Overall impression 70%.

The NeverEnding Story III (1994) Boo!

English An utterly botched film that should be rated as not suitable for children in an effort to cultivate their tastes. It has a terrible script and execution. A complete degeneration of the original idea of the literary "The NeverEnding Story." If Michael Ende, as the author, had serious reservations about the above-average first film, then this impressive mess most likely brought him to his grave, as he died a few months after its premiere. Overall impression: 5%.
