Gwyneth Paltrow stars as the matchmaker Emma Woodhouse in this adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel. Although her heart is in the right place and she only wants the best for people, Emma's meddling sometimes can have unforseen effects, and when she turns her attentions to creating a love match between her young friend Harriet Smith (Toni Collette) and the local vicar, Mr Elton (Alan Cumming), events look certain to get out of hand. A cautionary note is, however, sounded by the admiring Mr Knightly (Jeremy Northam), towards whom Emma begins to feel attracted herself. (StudioCanal UK)

English "Emma" is Austen's most magical novel. It tells the story of a confident, yet very fallible matchmaker who, through her concern for her surroundings, has forgotten about herself. I've known about this adaptation featuring the delicate and fragile Gwyneth for a long time, and now I'm very glad I waited to experience it. There is no need to rush such treasures. This is particularly suitable wherein the viewer appreciates an imperial feast for the eyes. ()

English Ugh, I can’t believe how many years it’s been since I first saw Emma. The cynic in me would boo this, but I have a soft spot for British films and series set in large family estates, so I just switched to the appropriate mode and let myself be entertained. I wonder how the new version will fare with me tomorrow. ()
