Acclaimed director Wim Wenders presents an affectionate portrait of Portugal’s capital city in this engaging and beguiling drama. Rüdiger Vogler once again returns to the role of Phillip Winter (Kings of the Road), a sound recordist who travels to Lisbon to help a friend on the making of his film, only to discover he has disappeared without a trace. While waiting for Antonioni (they were supposed to make Beyond the Clouds together), Wenders went to Lisbon to shoot one of the many symphonies of cities. It's a theme that we find in the 1920s in the USSR, Germany, and the Czech Republic, but I really don't feel that it suits the 1990s any better.
