English I find it really hard to watch a period gangster series that lacks emotions. Upon watching the first series I enjoyed the historic locations of Birmingham, but it was hard to find anybody who would make the second series worth watching. Cillian Murphy is great, but you could not find a colder character in any series if you tried. After the first season, it is worthy of three stars and I will see if I ever push myself into watching the next episodes. ()

English The British version of Gangs of New York. It may lack the lavish production design and pompous sets of its US sibling, but it's still a well-paced crime drama with brilliant dialogue and cleverly written and well-developed characters for a much smaller budget. The stage is set for the next season. ()

English I'm giving Season 1 five stars, but it’s only because I'm turning a blind eye to some major flaws. The creators seemed to have struggled a little with the passage of time (Ada's pregnancy), but the biggest problem for me was the lack of violence. I doubt that you could just talk your way out of a problem in 1919 England. I think that if someone decides to make a series about gangs, they can’t just avoid violence, and if they do, it ends up looking weird. Anyway, Cillian Murphy sure can stare daggers, I wouldn't want to get in a stare off with him. ()
