Raw, riveting and relentlessly compelling, Marvel's Jessica Jones: First Season ignites a firestorm of suspense cloaked in the haze of a noir-inspired slow burn. Haunted by a tragedy that broke her world apart, Jessica Jones settles in Hell's Kitchen, New York City, and opens her own detective agency, called Alias Investigations, with the hope of rebuilding her life and keeping the lights on in her apartment. She discovers that the source of her trauma, a mind-controlling sociopath named Kilgrave, has resurfaced, forcing her to use her gifts as a private eye to track him down before he causes more damage to her life or to anyone else. English Jessica Jones is lucky to be a new character. Her adventures have only been coming out in comics since 2001, so there's no need to process nearly a century of history and transformations on Netflix, as is the way with Marvel. The first season is a world unto itself, only later does Luke Cage split off and we meet the whole bunch of superheroes again in the Defenders series. As long as Jess is going solo, things are good for 13 whole episodes for a solid female lead and interesting girl characters. The superhero clichés are handled with wit, and the problems with the villain are handled very civilly. Although Tennant as the Purple Man is right on the edge between civilian and cartoon. The acting trio of Krysten Ritter (my first time watching her in a leading role and I consider it successful), Rachael Taylor (remember the great 666 Park Avenue series?), and the legendary Carrie-Anne Moss. The finale was great and Season 2 didn't take long to get going. ()

English I like strong female heroines, and Jessica Jones's quirky attitude makes her even more likeable. Plus, even though I'm not an alcoholic, I do appreciate when someone drinks bourbon like water:-) I had a great time all the way through. I wasn't bored even for a second, it had a great atmosphere, escalating suspense, and well-managed action scenes. I liked the humor and the characters of Luke Cage and Claire Temple and their part in the story. I have no complaints whatsoever about the first season, so five stars it is. ()
